21 Day Sugar Detox Book Review
If you have been following a Paleo diet for some time, then it is likely that you have heard of the 21 Day Sugar Detox program and probably even completed a round or two yourself! For those of you that are new to Paleo or just starting to explore it, The 21 Day Sugar Detox is a program developed by Diane Sanfilipo of Balanced Bites. Diane is a nutritionist and is also the author of the NY Times Bestselling book, Practical Paleo.
The 21 Day Sugar Detox is essentially a program that will help you bust sugar and carb cravings. The program is divided up into 3 levels, based on how you eat now. Level 1 provides a transition for people that currently follow a carb heavy diet, while level 3 is aimed at those that eat a Paleo or similar diet, but are indulging in sweet treats, a little too often.
There are also modifications available for each level based on a variety of factors: activity level, autoimmune conditions, nursing mom, or pescatarian. I think this personalized approach is what makes the detox so effective.
Who should try the 21 Day Sugar Detox (21DSD)?
- Anyone that includes a lot of gluten containing carbs in their diet (bread, pasta, cereal, etc.) and craves these foods, but is struggling to lose weight or feel energetic.
- Anyone that is currently following a gluten-free or Paleo diet, but craves sugar often, such as Paleo treats or chocolate.
- Anyone that feels tired and lacks energy or experiences energy crashes often.
- Anyone trying to lose weight. Although this isn’t exactly a weight loss book. Chances are if you cut the carbs and sugar, you will feel better and you will likely lose some inches.
If you don’t fall into the above categories, these books are still great to have. They are loaded with really easy and delicious squeaky clean Paleo recipes! I found that most of the recipes in these books are simple to make, so they are perfect for week night meals.
We were able to prep the “Hot & Sweet Ginger-Garlic Chicken” in 10 minutes, and while it baked in the oven we prepared our sides. Within 40 minutes, we had a well balanced meal on the table. Easy and tasty meals like this are really helpful in staying on track with a Paleo diet.
Although, we are not currently following a 21 Day Sugar Detox, we use the recipes often. Here are a few things that we have made recently. These pumpkin pancakes are the best Paleo pancakes that we have ever had. We make them all the time!
{pumpkin pancakes with vanilla bean coconut butter from the 21DSD}
{hot & sweet ginger-garlic chicken from The 21DSD}
{mini sweet potato flatbreads from 21DSD Cookbook with my Paleo Sloppy Joes}

My parents have just been diagnosed with multiple diseases/ailments and I was reading up on different diets and paleo seems to be the one to go to. I have to start somewhere and your blog is a great tool for me. Thank you for sharing everything you have on here.
Hi Pennie! I am so sorry to hear about your parents. Paleo is very therapeutic for many people, hopefully your parents will give it a try! Please let me know if you have any questions.
