We are headed to Austin for a little babymoon. I am beyond ecstatic about this little vacation. We are both so exhausted from work, getting ready for the baby, working on the book, etc., etc. We are looking VERY forward to hanging out in a mellow city, taking in the sunshine (supposed to be 80 degrees all weekend … yay!), eating lots of good food and just generally being lazy.
Austin seems to be the best kept secret of foodie cities, or maybe I just didn’t know about it. As I started doing research on places to eat, I found SO many restaurants that look amazing, that we won’t have time to try them all. Of course, I have prioritized my list by “must check out” & “nice to check out”. Haha, I know… a little crazy. I will definitely share my favorites with you when we get back. Austin even has a food truck app, to help you locate the closest food truck! How cool is that?
Traveling is usually a difficult time for people to stay on track with a paleo lifestyle. Some people decide that they are going to eat whatever they want while they travel, while other allow themselves more “cheat” meals. I think the key is to find what works best for each of us. For me, I have found that I feel much better & much more rested after a vacation, if I stick to my regular diet, but maybe allow a little more leniency than usual. I might have some cheese or have a creme brulee for dessert. I find airports & airplanes to be the most difficult places to eat. I try to bring lots of snacks on the plane, so I don’t land at my destination starving. Here is a list of what I have packed for Austin. Some of these foods, such as nuts, dried fruit, cocoroons, lara bars, I don’t include in my diet regularly, but I think they are a perfect treat for traveling. I also packed some extra snacks to have in the hotel room, in case I get hungry in between meals. Currently, I am hungry constantly, so this is crucial for me!
- My dad’s special egg salad (we are going to get on a plane at 6:50 am – ouch! … I’ll definitely need some breakfast). Which is just eggs, grass-fed butter, salt & pepper
- Cut up fresh fruit
- Mixed Nuts
- Dried Fruit (my fave treat!)
- Beef Jerky (make sure its gluten-free)
- Lara Bars
I’ll be posting photos of our trip on Instagram throughout the weekend. If you want to see what we are eating in Austin, connect with me at arsyv!

Have a blast! I have heard there are some great running/walking trails around a big lake, and they even have water stops because so many people run around there. Can’t wait to hear all about it!
