DIY Moisturizing Sugar Scrubs

Non-Toxic

These DIY Moisturizing Sugar Scrubs are the perfect solution for busy days. Made with only four ingredients, these sugar scrubs are used to both exfoliate and moisturize.

As a busy mom, it sometimes seems like soft skin is a thing of the past. It’s not often that I have time to use a scrub in the shower and then spend ten minutes moisturizing post-shower!

And while I completely believe in giving your skin the nourishment it needs, I also understand the busy mom aspect of rushing to get a shower in. Sometimes, it just doesn’t happen.

Which is why anything that is a combo of necessities is a win on my end.

These easy DIY sugar scrubs help to both exfoliate as well as moisturize. They contain shea butter soap which helps give them a lather when combined with water.

Shea butter is naturally moisturizing, but when it mixes with sugar, the lather works into a scrub. This helps slough off dead skin without it being too abrasive.

The DIY sugar scrubs also have a coconut oil base, leaving your skin well hydrated after using them. The coconut oil not only leaves skin soft, but also helps hold the sugar scrubs together.

Together, the ingredients help clean, exfoliate and moisturize all in one.

How To Use The Sugar Scrubs

The best part about these DIY sugar scrubs and how they differ from a regular sugar scrub is that they come in individual portions!

Meaning, no need to dip your wet hand into a glass container or run around trying to find the jar. These sugar scrubs are pre-portioned for maximum grab and go benefits (just like these hot chocolate lotion bars).

  • Whip up a big batch and keep them close to the shower for busy days
  • Give them to the kiddos to scrub down with (just be careful as the oil makes the bathtub a bit slippery)
  • Gift them to friends

Coloring & Scent

You most definitely do not have to color the scrubs. And if you do, you can use either soap colorant (which is what is mentioned in this recipe) or mica powder.

In my personal experience, mica powder is gorgeous, but it tends to stain the tub which drives me bonkers.

As for the scent, use what you like! Customize the essential oils as you wish as per your preference.

Or, if you use a scented soap, there’s no need to even add oils.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup grated shea butter soap*
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 drops soap colorant
  • 7-10 drops essential oils – optional
