Skip the conventional options and make your own DIY Shaving Butter! With only four ingredients, this homemade shaving butter is simple, effective, and all-natural.
Making your own shaving butter is an easy way to both protect your skin from the razor itself as well as moisturize all in one step.
Made with only four ingredients, this homemade shaving butter is simple to whip up and soothing for the skin. The ingredients help keep your skin from getting inflamed all while removing hair.
Classic Shaving Butter Recipes
Most homemade shaving butter recipes will be both butter and oil-based, with the easiest being coconut oil + shea butter and possibly some essential oils.
This makes whipping up your own shaving lotion super simple and it works well. However, I always find that my legs needed a bit more and that the shaving butter clogged my razor a bit. Which is why I add a little bit something extra.
Aloe Vera Gel for Skin
Aloe vera gel is great for skin and especially for inflammation. It helps soothe the skin while giving it some extra nutrients.
I personally also find it thins out the homemade shaving butter a bit making it easier to use and not clogging the razor.
Aloe is also great for dry skin so, in combination with the butter and oil, this homemade shaving butter helps moisturize too. That said, because there is aloe in the recipe it will not keep as long as one without. Use up this shaving butter in a couple of weeks and try your best not to get water into the jar.
When to Use This Homemade Shaving Butter
This shaving lotion is perfect for dry legs that need some love. It helps to both moisturize as well as hydrate, all while you are shaving!
That said, this DIY recipe is geared towards shaving your legs. Depending on your own personal skin type, I would avoid using this recipe on your underarms. Some people have trouble using coconut oil or butter on their underarms are they clog the sweat glands even with rinsing.
Some of this is trial and error however, so if you are up for it, give it a try and rinse well. Because the homemade shaving butter is so soothing it is ideal for sensitive areas like the underarms.
Essential Oils
The essential oils in this DIY recipe are completely optional however they do come with some perks.
While you can easily scent the homemade shaving lotion with your favorites (I adore citrus!) I personally went with a lavender + tea tree mixture.
Lavender is great for soothing skin (which is why I use it in my detox mask!) and tea tree helps control any bacteria which I find essential when shaving.
The homemade shaving lotion works well without the essential oils, but they are a bonus!
