This homemade facial cleaner is simple and easy to make! Treat your face with this fun homemade and natural options!
I’ve been using this homemade facial cleanser for a few weeks now. It’s really moisturizing and gentle on the skin. My face feels so soft and clean after washing it.
Just like we were told to avoid oils and fats in food, many of us had the same misconception about our skincare products. When I used to shop for facial cleanser, all I would look for were the words “oil-free”. I never bothered to check the ingredients on the label.
For at least 15 years, this is what the ingredients list looked like for something I would apply to my skin twice a day!
Active Ingredient:
Salicylic Acid 2%
Inactive Ingredients:
Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Disodium EDTA, Benzalkonium Chloride , Yellow 5, Red 40, Fragrance
Many women, easily apply more than 500 chemicals a day to their skin! Crazy, right? Check out this graphic to see how that is even possible. It’s really not that far fetched… if we use some face wash, moisturizer, make-up, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion and the big one… perfume, we are likely to get pretty close to 500 chemicals in one day.
Natural Homemade Facial Cleanser
Over the last few years, I’ve started making many of my own skincare products or switching out to healthier brands. Make-up has been a tough one for me. Confession: Up until 2 months ago, I was still using MAC and several other commercial brands.
Many of the healthier brands I had tried, just didn’t work the same. After a looooong search, I finally have found a solution. I recently switched out my eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush and lipstick to THIS brand and I love it! I can officially say that I’ve ditched all commercial make-up. All of this make-up is rated a 1 by the Environmental Working Group, but it works like commercial make-up brands!
But, back to the cleanser. I’ve been using the oil cleansing method to wash my face for a few years now. I was sent the book, Natural Beauty Alchemy to review recently. I was flipping through it and thought it would be nice to have a facial cleanser for those nights that I just don’t feel like oil cleansing.
With the author’s permission, I am sharing her recipe for Honey Sweet Cleanser from Natural Beauty Alchemy. I just want to note that I very slightly modified the recipe in the book.
The castile soap I used in this recipe is very gentle. It is made of saponified jojoba, coconut and olive oil. The glycerin helps moisturize the skin, the lavender essential oil doesn’t just smell nice, it is very softening for our skin.
And in my commercial face wash days, you would have never gotten me to put honey on my skin! Honey is actually a superfood for our skin. It has an ability to absorb and retain moisture, which helps skin feel hydrated and fresh. It is a natural antioxidant and has anti-microbial properties, it also supports the skin in rejuvenating and refreshing depleted skin.

Homemade Honey Sweet Cleanser
This recipe works great in an 8 ounce soap dispenser. If you want to make this in a 16 ounce bottle, similar to the blue mason jars you see here, double the recipe. I found the mason jars on Etsy!
Equipment
8 ounce foaming soap dispenser (like this)
Ingredients
1 tablespoon honey (preferably local and raw)
1 ounce vegetable glycerin (find it here)
2 ounces castile soap (I use this kind)5 drops lavender essential oil (find high-quality, organic essential oils here)
Distilled water
- Place a glass measuring cup in a pot filled with hot water. Add the honey and glycerin and whisk together. Then add the castile soap and lavender and whisk to combine.
- Transfer to an 8 ounce pump bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water.
- To use: Pump a small amount of soap into your hands and massage your face and neck. Rinse off with warm water and pat your face dry.

Thanks for the article Arsy, While we’ve gone down a Paleo path, its really only been in terms of food. I’m interested now in changing a lot of the household and personal products we use…. It’s a big job. But will be worth it I feel.

I love this idea. How did you make the lid with dispenser for the ball jar?
