With spring finally here and warmer weather coming it’s no wonder everyone feels a bit happier and more positive! And what better way to get ready for the warm weather than with a DIY citrus salt scrub recipe that not only leaves your skin silky but also gives you a little pick me up!
It always makes me smile a bit that people spend countless dollars on salt scrubs when they are so simple to whip up yourself!
This citrus salt scrub has 6 ingredients, all of which you will probably find in your house or kitchen. And just like my Citrus Bliss Lip Chap, the scent of the scrub will give you a nice mood boost and leave you ready to tackle the day!
Types of Citrus Oils
Citrus oils have been said to enhance the immune system, ease anxiety and boost energy. While you can definitely sub for all essential oils in this salt scrub recipe, I always opt for the real thing first.
Using the peel of lemon and orange not only makes the citrus salt scrub smell heavenly but it also adds in a sprinkle of color too. Combine that with the pink salt and this body scrub is beautiful to give as a homemade, thoughtful gift (especially when paired with this DIY Oatmeal Bath!)
If you do decide to sub in essential oils for all of the scents, one thing to note is to use this scrub mostly at nighttime. Having citrus-based oils on your skin out in the sun can lead to a bit of burning- just something to keep in mind.
What Else Does The Salt Scrub Have?
While this salt scrub has oil in it to help moisturize your skin, there’s also a teeny bit of soap. For me, this is my favorite part because you can use it as a cleaning agent, in addition to helping exfoliate and replenish the skin.
I’m a busy mom, so anything multi-use is a win for me ?
This citrus salt scrub is the perfect addition to either your self-care routine or just to have on hand in the shower to show your skin some love. The fine grain of the salt isn’t too abrasive on the skin and the oil will keep it silky. Plus, the scent of anything citrus is enough to bring some positive vibes into your day!
Ingredients In The Citrus Salt Scrub Recipe
- 1 cup fine grain Himalayan salt*
- 1/8 cup + 1tablespoon oil*
- 1 tablespoon unscented castile soap
- 2 teaspoons grated orange peel (about the size of one small orange)
- 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel (about the size of one lemon)
- 8 drops grapefruit essential oil
How To Make The Salt Scrub
In a small bowl, combine the salt and grated peels. Add in the oil and soaps and stir to combine until everything looks “wet”.
Portion out into jars and use at your leisure!
Tips on Making The Citrus Salt Scrub
- Both white sugar or salt will work so long as it is fine grain. Regular salt will be too abrasive on the skin.
- Use whatever oil you have on hand: avocado, jojoba, almond and olive oil all work.
- If you don’t have an orange and lemon, use essential oils! Divide the oils so the total amount workout out to 15-20 drops.
- Keep this sealed and try not to get water inside the scrub. Water causes mold. Use a spoon when portioning out from the jar and it will last longer.
Making your own body scrub is beyond simple and cost effective! And this homemade citrus scrub is no exception. Easy to whip up and perfect to have on hand. This DIY scrub will help exfoliate your body and leave it smooth to the touch- all while giving your mind a bit of a boost thanks to the citrus scent.
