How does the word “routine” make you feel? What do you envision? It’s a word that can bring up a lot of mixed emotions. For some, it provides comfort and solace, and for others, it can feel completely constraining.
I’ll be honest, I spent most of my life running away from anything that even looked like routine.
I felt as though I would get trapped in it, and my ability to be in the present moment would cease to exist. I had all of these big dreams and wanted to be open to whatever came my way, but at the same time, my consistency towards those dreams was nowhere in sight.
It wasn’t until I hired a mindset coach that my perspective on routine was drastically changed, and I saw that I was thinking about it all wrong. What I began to really get ingrained into my brain is that “We don’t do big things. We do small things on a daily basis that lead to big results.”
The power of routine is all about helping yourself WIN, and the more we can embrace that, the more we can really start to train our minds to work for us as opposed to against us.
The Power of Consistency
I saw that routine doesn’t just mean eating the same things every day and going to the same places. It doesn’t mean mindlessly driving to a job you hate and losing all sense of novelty.
It does mean, however, that you can have some non-negotiable factors that you implement into your life on a daily basis that help keeps you on track, connected to your purpose, and continually moving forward.
In fact, by implementing routine you might just be able to get out of your rut and quit that job you hate because you have done the work to find out what it is that you love and have found out a way to do it!!!
Every day can be completely different, you just have to consistently stroke the fire that burns within.
What Does It Take?
One of my absolute favorite things that I learned and have begun to incorporate into my life is an AM/PM routine. It has been truly life changing and makes me feel so charged up and ready to take on my day with a sense of purpose.
A peek into my day looks a little something like this…
A.M. Routine
I wake up in the morning, put one hand on my heart and one hand on my belly, and just begin to breathe. I make sure that every morning before jumping into my “to-do’s” and before checking my phone, I take a few moments of silence and begin to visually be with my goals. Our imagination is our superpower and our biggest manifesting tool.
Once I’ve cultivated some peace and connection, I begin to journal and write out affirmations (I have specific journal regimens I would love to share with you as well!)
I prime my mind with a connection to my purpose and my highest sense of self so that I can be reminded of it throughout the day. I am making it very known to the Universe what I am calling in.
At some point, I make sure to get a little exercise in. Whether it’s a heavy gym workout, yoga, surf, or a casual stroll, it’s just about getting the body moving and the brain juices flowing. You see, exercise is the routine bit, but what you choose to do can constantly change, and this is where you bring in the elements of FUN!
P.M. Routine
Night time ends with a little reading (after a simple, relaxing DIY oatmeal bath). Saturating your mind with new information is incredibly important and helps keeps us in a state of continual growth and knowledge. I like to do some meditating and silence before bed as well.
When we sleep we go into our subconscious mind, so those few moments beforehand gear us up for what we will experience in that state.
How to Incorporate a Routine into Your Life
In my mindset program, we dive deep into a routine and set up specific ones that work uniquely with your lifestyle and your goals.
The point is simply to make one and stick with it. Write out a check-list if it helps and marks each item when you have completed it. When we do this we create solid bookends to our day, so you know that no matter what happens throughout it, you’ve got you!
The power of routine keeps our minds focused, sharp, and in line with our dreams. Journaling and affirmations help raise up our vibrations to a positive state and help align us with our desires.
Always remember to focus on the things you are grateful for. Not just in the present moment but for the future things that are coming your way as well!!
Allow this type of routine to FEEL GOOD. Focus on your aspirations and spend time every day touching in with these and building them up. When we do this we are able to unlock our self-imposed chains. We are able to feel powerful and uplifted. We are able to see that structure truly does equal freedom.
