Better than Peanut Sauce: Paleo Almond Satay Sauce

Gluten-Free Dairy-Free

This paleo almond satay sauce is simple and easy to make. Goes great with salads as a light option, too!

Paleo Satay Sauce

Alright guys, I had previously mentioned that I was going to start doing a 30 Day Reset in the 2nd week of January. If you aren’t sure what a 30 Day Reset is, it is the program outlined in Chris Kresser’s new book, Your Personal Paleo Code. You can read my full review here.

It is seriously such a great read! Gift it to anyone that has ever even asked you what the Paleo diet is or maybe even anyone that has ever even mentioned liking bacon, which would be everyone, so just start handing out copies wherever you go! Just kidding… that would be expensive! I really feel like this is THE book that I can hand to anyone that inquires about the Paleo diet. Everything I would tell them is in there!

But, all jokes aside. I am really enjoying reading this book. I think it will be a game changer. Paleo has already become much more popular than it was a few years ago, but this book will make it ever more accessible. Everything is explained in such a digestible fashion and the approach is so flexible and individualized, which I think will make it more appealing to just about anyone.

I haven’t been able to start the reset yet because I have been really busy wrapping up a little project, which I will tell you more about soon! This little project is also the reason why I haven’t gotten any new recipes posted. But I have been busy cooking up a storm, as usual!

With my current hectic schedule, I decided it would be best to postpone a 30 Day Reset, as I can’t give it my all right now. I really want to be able to menu plan and create new recipes to share with you. I will keep you posted about when I plan to start. I am shooting for mid-February. If you aren’t doing a 30 Day Reset now, hopefully you will join me then!

Now to the recipe… This is a really easy sauce to whip up. I have been making it regularly, so we can spice up easy meals like lettuce wraps. Indyanna loves dipping everything in it, especially carrots. It also makes for a delicious stir-fry (recipe coming soon, I hope!).

Paleo Satay Sauce
Last week, I was out of spicy peppers and I was not about to make this without any kick. We are spicy addicts over here! I substituted the spicy pepper for 1 teaspoon of red curry paste. The flavor of the sauce turned out differently, but it was still good. I like the Thai Kitchen curry paste. It isn’t organic, but the ingredients are clean.

Better than Peanut Sauce: Paleo Almond Satay Sauce

Ingredients
1/2 cup almond butter (I really like this one, but it’s pricey!)
juice of 1 tangerine
juice of 1 lime
1 small spicy pepper, chopped (I use jalapenos, but serrano or another spicy pepper would work)
1/2 cup coconut aminos (find it here)
1/2 teaspoon Paleo-friendly fish sauce (I like this brand; FYI – you should be able to find it at a much better price at your local health food store)
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1/4 hot filtered water

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup almond butter (I really like this one, but it’s pricey!)
  • juice of 1 tangerine
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1 small spicy pepper, chopped (I use jalapenos, but serrano or another spicy pepper would work)
  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos (find it here)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paleo-friendly fish sauce (I like this brand; FYI – you should be able to find it at a much better price at your local health food store)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1/4 hot filtered water

Instructions

  • Place almond butter, tangerine juice, lime juice, pepper, coconut aminos, fish sauce and ginger in a food processor. Blend until smooth. Add water and mix some more. If it is too thick for your liking, you can thin it out with more water. I find this thickness to work great as a dipping sauce and for a stir-fry sauce.
  • You can eat it immediately, but I have found that if you let it sit for a few hours to overnight, the flavors improve. Store in the refrigerator in an air tight container.

Oh my! This looks absolutely delicious. The almond butter + ginger combination sounds like a winner to me!

Is this similar to a Whole30?

It is similar, but with a few differences. This approach goes more in depth regarding customizing the Reset and the Reintroduction phase to fit your needs.

I just made this sauce and it is actually runny for me- wondering about the proportion on coconut aminos and water? It could be that my tangerine was extra juicy also. Just curious! It tastes delicious!

That’s a great point about the tangerine! I should have measured it out, instead of listing the juice of 1 tangerine because it could really vary. Mine was small and it wasn’t super juicy. In the case of a very juicy tangerine, I would recommend skipping the water. Thank you for the feedback. I’ll be making this again soon and I will measure the tangerine juice out and update the post.
