We had the pleasure of spending some time with the “Spunky family”, when they came through Santa Cruz as part of Kelly’s book tour. We had such an amazing time with them; we even tried to convince them to move to Santa Cruz! Hopefully, they’re considering it! 😉
We were having so much fun eating and talking that I forgot to whip out the real camera, so here are a few iPhone and instagram photos from our visit!
This is the dinner we had before Kelly’s talk and book signing at the Capitola Book Cafe. We had Chocolate Chicken Mole, plantains fried in coconut oil and a bunch of other stuff!
I love this photo that I snapped of Kelly and Ginger at the beach near our house…
A couple of photos of Indyanna playing with the girls… she was very smitten by our guests…
We really had a lovely time with the incredibly sweet, talented and creative Brozyna family.
Talking about lovely… you have to see Kelly’s book, The Paleo Chocolate Lover’s Cookbook. It is gorg! Kelly is such a talented photographer. Her book makes me want to eat the food right off the page.
Equally as good as the photography are her recipes. We tried the No-Bake Chocolate Chip “Peanut Butter” Cookies and The Chocolate Chip Cookies Three Ways. We were naturally drawn to the chocolate chip recipes because we are somewhat of chocolate chip connoisseurs over here. Mainly, we just like to eat chocolate chips straight out of the freezer after dinner. 🙂
Both of these recipes were delightful and weren’t too complicated to make. I only got a chance to snap a photo of the chocolate chip cookies. I had to improvise with some chocolate chunks, since I didn’t have enough chocolate chips.
We also made the Chocolate Roulade for our Christmas morning breakfast. I was really intimidated by this one. It looked so fancy and complicated. As I often tell you here, I don’t bake, this is mostly cause I suck at it. Seriously! Something about having to be so precise and remember all the ingredients, is really tough for me.
I was pleasantly surprised by how simple the roulade was to make! It was so delicious too… Indyanna took a few bites and she was ready to devour the whole thing. So, we decided this roulade will be our annual Christmas morning treat.
This book is truly beautiful. It is the type of book that makes your coffee table look good. I leave it out, just so I can hear guests say… “Wow, this is really Paleo?”. Then I can go on about how awesome Paleo is and how they should try it! 🙂
I borrowed a couple of photos from the actual book, so you can see how gorgeous it really is.
Kelly incorporates chocolate into each recipe so thoughtfully that we cooked from it all week and didn’t feel chocolated-out! The book is packed with delicious recipes for treats, but it also has a handful of savory recipes with a chocolate twist. If you enjoy chocolate even half as much as I do, then this book is a must-have!
