A chocolate smoothie that’s both indulgent and healthy. This chocolate superfood smoothie is allergy friendly, dairy-free, real food based and tasty!
If there’s one thing I take seriously in this world it’s chocolate! As a pick me up, as a comfort, and “just because”, chocolate is easily a diet staple.
But quality matters, which is where cacao powder comes in! If you’ve never heard of cacao powder (not to be mistaken with cocoa powder), you are missing out. You can read more about the benefits of real chocolate here, but here are a few key points:
- Loaded with plant-based iron
- More calcium than cows milk
- More antioxidants than blueberries
If those aren’t reasons enough to add more chocolate into your day, then I’m stumped!?
But cacao powder isn’t the only superfood in this chocolate smoothie. It also contains hemp hearts, a wicked omega-3 healthy fat to help keep inflammation at bay.
Hemp hearts are nutrient little seeds that contain a great amount of healthy fat, but also protein! Many of us either struggle to get in enough protein each day or have most of their protein come from animal sources. This is fine, but plant-based protein comes with some unique benefits, too.
In addition to the hemp hearts, the collagen helps slow the release of sugars.
So, this superfood smoothie is not only made with everything delicious, but it’s also great for you! It’s a tasty way to curb a chocolate craving or a healthy snack – and it is kid approved!
If you’re a fitness junkie, adding a scoop of protein powder to this smoothie also makes it a great post-workout shake to replenish your muscles.
So now the question isn’t if you’re making the smoothie, it’s what are your going to top the smoothie with?
Make this chocolate smoothie extra tasty by topping it with more almond butter, homemade crunchy granola, or some toasted coconut. You won’t regret it.
