This DIY Cinnamon Lip Chap is easy to whip up, makes a thoughtful gift for teachers or friends, and helps keep your lips hydrated and silky!
When it comes to self care, lips often get overlooked (unless you use this pink lip scrub)! We place so much focus on baths and body butters that we forget about our poor lips.
But this cinnamon lip chap will help put silky lips back on the self care list.
Made with only four ingredients plus essential oils, this DIY lip balm is easy to make. Using a combo of oils and waxes, the formula helps lips stay hydrated as well as protected.
One of the reasons I love beeswax (aside from the comforting honey smell!) is that it helps coat your lips (or legs or whatever you use it in) from the elements. It repels water slightly and in this case, helps protect your lips from bitter winds and cold.
In contrast, the other ingredients are very nourishing. They help keep the lips and skin hydrated and silky to keep them soft.
It’s a delicate balance – and a wonderful one!
The essential oils I chose for this DIY lip chap are simple: cinnamon and citrus. I went with citrus bliss, but any orange will work.
The combination is both calming (cinnamon is the perfect fall weather smell!), but also uplifting. Orange has been shown to perk up moods and make people happier.
So, having the smell right under your nose is the perfect place for a mood boost.
And lastly, these homemade lip chaps make such awesome gifts! I LOVE giving homemade spa gifts out for all things Christmas, showers, etc. They simple to make but they also show you care.
It’s easy to customize the scent based on the person and most batches make enough for multiple gifts. So, when you whip up this batch of homemade lip chaps – be generous!
Ingredients in DIY Cinnmaon Lip Chap
- 5 Tablespoons shea butter
- 5 teaspoons almond oil
- 5 teaspoons coconut oil
- 5 Tablespoons beeswax
- 10 drops cinnamon essential oil
- 7 drops citrus essential oil
Instructions
Measure out all ingredients. In a small jar, combine everything except the essential oils.
Place the *heat proof* jar in a pot with a couple of inches of water and bring to a rolling boil.
Heat until all the ingredients are melted completely. Especially the beeswax.
While they’re melting, set up the lip chap tubes. You have to move extremely fast once the jar is removed from the heat, so have everything ready.
Remove the jar from the heat and whisk in the essential oils.
Using a mini funnel, pour the mixture into the lip chap tubes filling to the absolute top (once it hardens it goes down a bit in the tube).
Keep pouring, moving quickly so that the mixture doesn’t harden in the jar.
Let sit 10 minutes on the counter and then place the lids back on the tubes.
Let sit overnight for the lip chaps to firm up – make sure not to try them too soon! Otherwise you just have a tube full of gunk.
Makes 8 lip chaps depending on the tubes.
Homemade lip chap makes a great gift for friends, but it’s also awesome to have on hand for yourself! Keep your lips silky and hydrated without any chemicals or fillers that are often added to store bought chaps. Plus, walk around with the scent of cinnamon under your nose – it makes everything better!
