DIY Lavender Bath Bombs

Non-Toxic

Homemade, calm-inducing bath bombs make a perfect gift for friends, neighbors or baby showers! These simple bath bombs use all-natural ingredients and are simple enough to whip up on a rainy day.

There was a time that I disliked making my own bath bombs. Mainly, because I failed so badly at it!

However, after far too much trial and error, I’ve come up with a few tricks to get the job done (read how and why to make your own bath bombs if you need some help!).

Now-a-days we almost always have some bath bombs on hand either for ourselves or in case I need to throw together a super speedy gift.

While taking a bubble bath is calming enough, there’s something special about bath bombs and watching the fizz to nothing. I personally find them fun, but my daughters just love them.

And since they’re pretty simple to make, it makes far more sense to whip up a homemade batch than it does to purchase them!

This perk of this lavender recipe is that the ingredients are all natural. There are no added colors or man-made fragrances. Just basic ingredients.

I added in a little bit of pink salt in place of the Epsom just to give them some shimmer but if you don’t have that on hand don’t worry about it!

The combination of baking soda and Epsom salt has been said to help detox and sooth the skin. Personally, I use it (and love it!) for muscle aches.

Homemade Lavender Bath Bombs

Using a pure lavender essential oil not only helps to calm down at the end of the day, but also eases basic tension throughout the body.

When it comes to gift giving, DIY gifts are the most thoughtful and I personally adore getting them. Paired with an easy homemade vanilla lotion or lip scrub, these bath bombs make an awesome gift – especially for expecting moms who often get a zillion gifts for the babe and not as many to help mom relax. ?

Keep it simple by whipping up a batch or two of these DIY lavender bath bombs. Use them to relax, to induce calm, and to give a little bit of self care into a hectic day,

Ingredients in Lavender Bath Bombs

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½ cup citric acid
  • ¼ cup Epsom salts
  • ¼ cup large pink Himalayan salt*
  • ¾ cup cornstarch
  • 2 Tablespoons almond oil*
  • 3 teaspoons witch hazel
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • Optional 1/4-1 teaspoon mica powder*
  • Small spray bottle with water

How To Make Lavender Bath Bombs

In a large bowl, combine the first five ingredients and mix well.

If using essential oils, combine them into a bowl with the almond oil and witch hazel.

Pour wet into dry. It will fizz, (that’s okay!) mix until mostly combined. The mixture will look only a bit wet (this is normal.)

Fill each mold halfway with the bath bomb mixture. Use a spatula to press the mixture firmly down into the mold. The better you do this, the more they will hold together. Spray a tiny bit of water over the mold and press down again to ensure it is all combined and holding.

You want to place slightly above the mold line for the bottoms. Press down firmly.

Portion out the remaining mixture to fill the molds and repeat the process of pressing down, spraying with water etc.

It’s a fine balance of pressing and spraying water. Do not spray too much or the bombs will lose their fizz. Just a tiny bit to help them hold.

Place the two halves of the molds together and press firmly.

Let sit on the counter for 24 hours to set.

Pop out of the molds and use!

This recipe makes four big bombs, but it depends on the molds you use. It can also be done with just silicone baking molds!

Notes:

Salt: the Himalayan salt is optional. If you don’t have any on hand, just use more Epsom salt

Oil: Jojoba oil works in place of the almond oil if that’s what you have.

Mica: This is a natural way to color the bath bombs and works very well. However, it does tend to leave a colored ring around the tub – it’s entirely optional.

These lavender bath bombs are easy to whip up, contain all-natural ingredients and make a beautiful self care gift! Use them to relax at the end of the day and sooth tension. Or, get the kids excited with a little fizz before bed!
