This easy DIY Face Serum comes together in under five minutes. It’s geared towards nourishing, replenishing, and healing the skin from inflammation. Whip up this serum and make it a regular addition to your natural skincare routine!
Sometimes it feels as if we need product after product to keep our skin glowing. However, I am a firm believer that simple is best. And, if you take good care of your skin, it’ll glow naturally!
This face serum is made up of minimal ingredients (just a carrier oil and essential oils) and is geared towards helping your skin appear nourished, firmer, and moisturized.
It’s simple to make and since you only need a teeny bit, it tends to last a long time.
Choosing A Carrier Oil
For typical DIY products, there are a few carrier oils to choose from. And most are interchangeable.
When it comes to the sensitive skin on your face though, you want to make sure you have the best one for your skin type.
From what I’ve learned, if your skin is naturally very dry, you’ll want to opt for a carrier like almond oil. It’s nourishing and hydrating.
If your skin type is fairly neutral, you’ll want to opt for jojoba oil as a carrier. It works for a variety of skin types and is nourishing for them all.
Essential Oils
The essential oils for this DIY face serum were chosen to help reduce inflammation, nourish the skin, and to heal.
However, they are by no means the only essential oils you can use! That said, some oils like citrus you need to be careful of on areas like your face (if exposed to the sun for instance). I urge you to do your own research before substituting any oils.
Keep in mind that I am not a medical professional and the essential oils I’ve chosen are based on my own experience.
Lavender: A classic essential oil for all skin types! Lavender helps soothe, reduce inflammation (which is why it’s perfect in this muscle rub recipe) and is calming – perfect if applying to serum before bed.
Melaleuca: I opted to include a few drops of this essential oil strictly for its anti-bacterial properties. It would be a great help to anyone struggling with acne.
Copaiba: This essential oil is a potent anti-inflammatory and great at soothing.
Helichrysum: This essential oil can help heal and regenerate skin. It’s an essential oil that’s promoted to aid in a healthy glow.
How To Use The Serum
The best part about a DIY face serum is that you don’t need a lot!
Wash and cleanse your face and if using a DIY Face Toner, wipe with that. Then, use 2-4 drops of the face serum and massage into your skin.
I personally do this before bedtime as then the oils will have more time to absorb before I sweat.
