Homemade Grapefruit Foot Lotion

Non-Toxic

Do you have certain scents that just give you that “extra” lift? That perk your mood and make you breathe in just a little bit deeper? Grapefruit is definitely one of mine- which makes it perfect to sneak into this easy homemade foot lotion!

It’s probably a good chance that you, like myself, are super busy and always on your feet. While this can be awesome and productive, it also means that those feet could use a bit of extra love.

More often than not, we forget about our feet (especially in the winter months) and they become dry or cracked.

Which is why I like to keep a batch of lotion on hand especially for them- that and because making your own foot lotion just makes sense!

Instead of slathering on lotion without countless ingredients, keep it simple with the classics: oil, butter, and a binder.

This homemade grapefruit foot lotion uses a base of shea butter and coconut oil- both of which have nourishing properties.

The coconut oil helps heal, it’s anti-bacterial and it forces you to massage the lotion into your feet a little more instead of just slapping it on.

Shea butter, on the other hand, is creamy and gives a bit of hydration and help to cracks and callouses on your feet.

And beeswax, well that just holds it all together and smells lovely!

When it comes to beauty products, I always opt to make my own so that I know what’s in them (my all-time favorite product being this chocolate peppermint lip chap!). I enjoy knowing I’m using minimal, quality ingredients on my skin and not harsh chemicals.

Not only does this put my mind (and my hormones!) at ease but I find that the simple ingredients work far better than the concoctions.

This easy homemade foot lotion is the perfect end to a hot soak in the tub (with these sleepy time bath bombs of course!). Since it’s based on natural ingredients it’s sure to soothe cracked feet, get them ready for summertime and generally to show you’re your feet some love when used regularly.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup  Shea butter
  • ¼ cup  Coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon  Beeswax
  • 13-15 drops Grapefruit essential oil

Instructions

  • In a small glass jar, place the butter, oil, and beeswax.
  • Bring a small pot of water (about an inch) to a rolling boil and place the jar in it.
  • Heat the ingredients until everything is completely melted (especially that beeswax!).
  • Remove the jar from the heat and whisk in the essential oil.
  • If using unfiltered beeswax, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer while pouring it into a holding container.
  • Let sit on the counter for 24 hours to firm up and the use frequently to show your feet some love!

Notes:

Makes a little over 1/3 cup.

Making your own foot lotion isn’t hard- and it’s far more nourishing! Use this simple, DIY foot lotion to ease cracked feet, make your skin silkier and- thanks to the grapefruit oil- give your mood a little boost.
