With grocery stores being a bit harder to get to right now, using up anything you can in your freezer or pantry is helpful!

And while we are definitely trying to scale back on how much we’re snacking, it doesn’t mean we don’t want something a little sweet or indulgent.

Normally, I would tell you that this berry crumble would be the perfect thing to bring to a Memorial Day gathering, a baby shower, or a big dinner with friends. And it will be. But for now, this simple berry crumble is delicious when shared with your family. It’s perfect to use as a Sunday night dessert or even as a semi-sweet breakfast or snack.

How Does It Hold Together

This berry crumble recipe has both a base and crumble topping. Because the crumble part combines almond meal and almond butter, it’s easy to press the combination firmly down or crumble it on top.

If mess is a thing for you, this berry crumble could easily be made into bars.

The berry part of the crumble uses chia seeds which means that it’s not too watery and instead holds together nicely.

Fresh Or Frozen Berries

The benefit of this easy berry crumble is that it is made with frozen berries. Since hitting a farmers market isn’t an option right now, this makes it easier to use up what you have on your freezer.

Fresh berries will work also once they’re in season and you can get them, but you’ll want to add 1-2 Tablespoons of water to the mixture.

Essentially with the berries, you are making chia jam (just like in these blueberry maple tarts). You’ll boil the berries slightly, mash them, add chia seeds and let the chia seeds absorb to create a tasty berry gel.

Minimal sugar, lots of flavor.

This paleo berry crumble is a simple recipe to whip up and a classic hit with everyone. We opted for mixed berries (which is what we had), but any frozen berry will work.

Loaded with nutrients from the berries and healthy fats from the almonds, this berry crumble recipes makes an easy treat. And yes, it does taste delicious served with a bit of ice cream!
