Paleo Strawberry Jello for Healthy Bones and Glowing Skin

Paleo Strawberry Jello for Healthy Bones and Glowing Skin

I sat down to flip through my friend, Syvlie’s new eBook, The Gelatin Secret, thinking I was going to look at some delicious gummy recipes. I was delightfully surprised to not only find a ton of those, but also a very comprehensive section about the health benefits of gelatin.

I consider gelatin a true superfood. Something I like to emphasize to my clients that are switching to a Paleo diet, is that it is not only about which foods you avoid, but for best results, it is equally about which nutrient-rich foods you include. Today, most of us consume large amounts of muscle meats. As a result, we get too much of the amino acids, tryptophan or cysteine, which can result in metabolic problems. By not eating the bones and organs of animals, we are missing out on other important amino acids. Consuming gelatin regularly helps us have a more balanced diet and get more nutrients into our bodies.

Here are just a few benefits of gelatin:

  • Supports skin, hair and nail health
  • Calms the body and balances cortisol levels
  • Strengthen bones, teeth, and cartilage
  • Supports muscle formation
  • Healing to the digestive tract
  • It’s full of collagen, which helps reduce wrinkles and cellulite
  • Beneficial for the joints
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves immune function
  • Can assist with hormone balance and weight regulation

Gelatin Recipes to Nourish Your Body

The Gelatin Secret doesn’t only teach us all about the health benefits of gelatin, but it also equips us with tons of delicious recipes. It shows us how to get our daily dose of gelatin.

I am so excited to share strawberry jello for healthy bones and glowing skin from The Gelatin Secret with you. These are so easy to whip up and they make the perfect sweet “treat”. My toddler gobbles these up like it’s nobody’s business.

Poor jello… it is such a healthy and nutritious food, but it has been so abused. Here are the ingredients from a typical store-bought strawberry version: WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, SUGAR, GELATIN, CONTAINS LESS THAN 0.5% OF ADIPIC ACID AND CITRIC ACID (FOR TARTNESS), SODIUM CITRATE (CONTROLS ACIDITY), RED 40, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR.

Notice how there isn’t even any mention of strawberries in the ingredients? Ditch the toxin-ridden store bought variety and try Sylvie’s strawberry jello, rich in vitamins and minerals!

Do you need to bloom the gelatin first?

You can! I just followed the recipe and didn’t. I got a few clumps, but if you whisk vigorously you can get them out. Hope that helps!

Could you use a whisk instead of immersion blender?

    • Arsy Vartanian says

      June 5, 2014 at 9:49 am

Yes! I usually just whisk vigorously and it works great.

If one cannot have any sugars, should the maple syrup be substituted with more plain water (and perhaps some stevia powder)?

Yes! Stevia will work or you can even skip the sweetener.

I love Jello ever since I was a kid any flavor would be make me jump up and down, Of course I don’t do that anymore but it still makes me smile. I didn’t know that Jello has so much health benefits I don’t eat Jello that much anymore but I think I should start adding it to my grocery list now. What I like most is that it can help strengthen the bones which I am so concerned about because we have a history of osteoporosis in the family. As I’m getting older I’m starting to experience sudden back pains when I lift up something heavy from the floor, I’m only in my late 20s so I can only imagine that it will get worse if I don’t do anything about it. Thanks for this post.

    Regards,
    Toni

Hi Tony! I am glad to hear that you learned about the health benefits of gelatin. Just to clarify, I don’t recommend store bought jello, as it is full of additives and other food toxins. I only recommend 100% gelatin from grass-fed cows.

I only know gelatin is usually used to make jelly, but I don’t know it has so many benefits! Me and my husband have been trying Paleo diet for a while. Since now is the berry season, this recipe will be perfect as our summer dessert. Will definitely try it soon, thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi Arsy. I made this recipe last night – love it!

Quick question – how long does the jello keep in the fridge, and can it be frozen? I live on my own and the recipe makes quite a big batch, so I need to plan for storing and using it up.

Another question – what would you say is a serving size? It’s so delicious, I could quite easily eat loads! I cut it into blocks, like the photograph above – how many blocks would be an acceptable portion size? 😉

    Many thanks
    Sarah

Sorry about the delayed reply, Sarah! I just saw this. I would say that it keeps for about a week, but it never lasts that long at our house. I usually go by the smell test. I am really not sure about portion size either. I personally eat a ton of it! 🙂
