Digestion Mocktail Recipe

Digestion Mocktail // rubiesandradishes.com

I made this drink over the weekend for my husband, when he wasn’t feeling well after a night of drinking, eating poor quality quesadillas (maybe a step above the bell!) and ice-cream bars. Guess who that doesn’t happen to? Me! Why? Cause I don’t eat that junk. But, instead of saying “I told you so”.. I decided to be a nice wife and help him feel better. I got him some coconut water for hydration and I made him some fresh ginger and lemon tea to settle his stomach. In the afternoon, I made him this concoction. I am happy to report that by the end of the day, he felt A-ok! So well that he was asking where his other ice-cream bar went! Seriously?!? It would have been in the trash, if I had seen it. But, my brother had already eaten it up.

Ginger Tea // rubiesandradishes.com

Apple cider vinegar is thought to aid in digestion by helping stimulate stomach acid. Ginger is often used to treat indigestion, gas, bloating, nausea and diarrhea. It has definitely helped me in the past to settle nausea! Carbonated water can also help settle an upset stomach.

Digestion Mocktail
[Printable Version]

Ingredients
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar (I use this kind)
1 tablespoon fresh ginger water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
8 ounces sparkling water
raw honey to taste

Pour over ice and enjoy!
Ginger Tea/Water

Ingredients
3 inch piece of ginger
2 cups water

  1. Peel ginger and slice thinly
  2. Boil the ginger in water for 10-15 mins.

*Note: the more ginger you use and the longer you boil, the stronger it will be!

It’s a bit counter-intuitive, but would this work for heartburn? I’ve had a lot of it lately and had to resort to Pepcid…I know that’s a no-no, but it was so bad…

Bummer to hear that you are going through that! I have read that ginger could help. Maybe, just try making the ginger tea to start with?

Have you looked into anything in your diet that might be causing the heart burn? I used to get it a lot before I cut out wheat.

I love ginger and can’t wait to try this! How long will the ginger water keep?

I am not quite sure cause we drink it so fast here! But, I would personally just go with the smell test!

That mocktail sounds so good. Perfect for Memorial Weekend. I was making homemade ginger kombucha but stopped drinking it once I got pregnant and now I’m breastfeeding. Anyway, I have a bunch of frozen ginger begging to be used and I think this would be perfect. I’m going to try it without boiling it since previously frozen ginger can just be squeezed once thawed to get a ton of juice out of it.

Lisa – Great tip on the previously frozen ginger! I am going to have to try that. How come you gave up kombucha while pregnant and breastfeeding? I ask because I am breastfeeding now and drink it daily.

I do the apple cider vinegar part, but will definitely try adding the ginger component, thanks!
